One player Liverpool have been reportedly tracking for years has decided he wants to join Manchester United.
Liverpool and Manchester United have been locked in battle for supremacy both on and off the pitch over the years.
The Red Devils got the better of their Anfield rivals during the Sir Alex Ferguson years.
However, since the Scotsman retired and Liverpool began their era of dominance under Jurgen Klopp and now Arne Slot, the tables have turned and the Reds are back to their perch.
Liverpool have won two Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy in the last seven years.
In contrast, Manchester United have gone from one rebuild to another, and from one low level to the next.
Their worst in recent history was this season, when they finished in 15th place, a whole 42 points behind Liverpool.
They also missed out on UEFA Champions League football next season, after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham last month.
However, despite their struggles, Manchester United still enjoy a strong pull?
The Red Devils still appear to be a place top players want to go as proven by the fact that they have managed to lure one Liverpool-linked attacker to Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s side have already signed previously-linked Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha this summer, and according to The Athletic, they are close to sealing another deal involving another player Liverpool wanted in the coming days.
According to David Ornstein, “Bryan Mbeumo has decided he wants to join Manchester United, and the Old Trafford club is set to open talks with Brentford as they pursue an agreement to sign the forward this summer.”
The 25-year-old attacker has been previously linked with a move to Liverpool and the Reds were said to be considering a summer move for him.
However, he has now decided to join Liverpool’s rivals with all left now being for United to agree a deal with Brentford.
A deal is expected to be agreed soon, even though his manager Thomas Frank did insist earlier in the season that the player will be expsensive to sign.
However, the fact that Mbeumo has a year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium makes it easier for any club negotiating for him to find a deal.
Mbeumo began his football journey at Troyes AC, where he progressed through the youth ranks and made his professional debut in 2018.
Brentford bought him in August 2019 after being drawn to his Ligue 2 exploits.
Mbeumo made a name for himself at Brentford as a vital player right away, thanks to his technical prowess, quickness, and adaptability.
Last season was the Cameroon international’s most productive since joining from Troyes in 2019, contributing 20 goals and eight assists.
